I've been running rootservers or similar for 20 years now. After I have moved email to mailbox.org I no longer need the server and am in the process of retiring the it (mail vm is running Debian Squeeze 6.0.10 which was released 2014 ...).

I am still a little sad that the world has forced me to stop hosting my own mail.

OTOH I am sure there are others who are a lot better at securing their servers:

Experimenting with my own gotosocial instance as octodon.social was blocking norden.social and I was unable to follow @thebigfoot
